Australian National Piano Award

Across the Award week, each finalist will present two 45-minute solo recitals, showcasing a diverse and demanding repertoire spanning classical and contemporary works.

These recital performances allow audiences to engage with each pianist’s individual artistry and follow their journey throughout the competition.

Featuring works by composers such as Bach, Haydn, Mozart, Beethoven, Schubert, Messiaen, Vine, and more, the solo recitals form the foundation of this prestigious Award.

In the lead up to the grand final, three adjudicators will listen intently and appraise every performance, while audiences can vote for their favourite pianist in the Lorna Speechley Memorial Prize for the People’s Choice.

Following the solo recitals, five selected finalists will advance to the semi final, presenting performances that demonstrate technical mastery, interpretive depth and artistic maturity.

Each pianist will be challenged to sustain excellence as they compete for a place in the grand final.

Adjudicated by an international panel, this stage is a thrilling highlight of the Award week and offers audiences a chance to witness rising stars at a pivotal moment in their careers.

Three outstanding finalists will be selected to perform in the grand final, delivering powerful and compelling performances before an international panel of adjudicators.

At the conclusion of the evening, prize recipients will be announced, including awards determined by adjudicators and audience votes determine The People’s Choice Prize.

The grand final is an unforgettable celebration of piano artistry and stands as one of Australia’s most significant classical events. With over $75,000 in prize money, international adjudicators and audience votes determine The People’s Choice Prize.
